Description Overview

As part of the Global Investor Relations and Corporate Communications Department, the Corporate Communications Intern has a unique opportunity to add lasting value to Perrigo’s strategic communication efforts while gaining valuable career experience and broader understanding of the practical side of working for a global publicly traded company. 

Reporting to the Senior Director of Corporate Communications and Public Relations and working alongside a small but highly visible team, the intern will contribute to Perrigo’s reputation management and employee engagement efforts in a variety of ways, including developing engaging content for internal and external stakeholders, driving effective communication processes and partnering across the organization to complete assigned objectives. The intern serves as an important driver of content for Perrigo’s corporate intranet and social media channels, and has the opportunity to collaborate globally on a variety of communications objectives. 

Scope of the Role

  • Support the development and implementation of communication plans focused on Perrigo’s vision, strategic priorities, business performance, social responsibility and philanthropic efforts 
  • Assist the team in writing, editing and disseminating a variety of content, including intranet articles, organization announcements, website copy, social media content, presentations and more for use across a wide range of channels reaching a broad group of internal and external stakeholders
  • Play an active role in managing corporate digital channels, including developing, curating and posting content for the intranet, corporate website and social media accounts
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts across the organization to generate ideas for communication topics and create associated content 
  • Actively manage content management systems and maintain relevant editorial calendars
  • In consultation with senior members of the team, respond in a timely and professional manner to requests for communication support, information/data and guidance related to brand guidelines and communication best practices
  • Support corporate meetings and events, as needed

Experience Required

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or related field
  • Proven superb writing skills required, preferably related to creating content for articles, newsletters, social media, etc.
  • Excellent proofreading and editing skills a plus
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Ability to distill complex ideas into language appropriate for varied audiences 
  • Ability to balance creative story telling with analytical assessment to ensure alignment with organization’s themes
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and with others; strong interpersonal skills
  • Dependability, flexibility, and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) preferred
  • Digital communications aptitude; experience working with web or social media content management systems a plus 
  • Must be available to work throughout the semester on a part-time basis, preferably 15-20 hours per week; option to extend internship across multiple semesters; in-person work in Grand Rapids or Allegan, with potential for hybrid work schedule incorporating remote working, influenced by business needs and candidate academic calendar.
