Description Overview

The Global Automation Lead position will be responsible for developing scalable manufacturing automation strategies based on industry best practice and program management of the implementation throughout the global supply chain to help drive operational efficiencies.

Scope of the Role

  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, and IT&S technical leaders to build a prioritized automation roadmap necessary to meet short and long-term business needs
  • Maintain knowledge of industry innovations, technology platforms, security techniques, and application trends to inform the corporate automation strategy and unlock technology constraints
  • Cultivate strategic vendor relationships to produce recurring long-term global benefits
  • Build corporate-wide culture of incorporating innovative concepts and technologies into functional processes
  • Lead the development and deployment of global automation standards and policies
  • Independently identify automation solutions for complex applications and empower others to recognize and socialize opportunities for automation solutions
  • Collaborate with IT&S to define, implement, and monitor proper manufacturing network integration with corporate infrastructure
  • Build and utilize automation test labs as advance assurance that recommended solutions for new and enhanced systems are robust
  • Inform, coach, and influence local Engineering, Operations, and IT&S resources at global sites to align with corporate automation strategies
  • Fully own Manufacturing Shop Floor Systems standards and governance throughout the global supply chain:
    • Manufacturing Network
    • Manufacturing Execution System
    • Warehouse Systems
    • Integration with Quality Systems
    • Production Monitoring applications
    • Automation of individual equipment, complete work centers, and integrated delivery systems  

Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
  • 15+ years overall industry experience | 10+ years direct experience with Manufacturing and Packaging Automation Systems | 5+ years directly managing large, complex, cross-functional projects
  • ISA Certified Automation Professional (CAP) certification preferred or to be pursued to achieve expert knowledge of ISA-88 and ISA-95 standards and architecture
  • Experience with MES, Data Historians, PLC Programming, SQL Database/Reporting, Robotics, Process Control Systems, and Production Monitoring applications
  • Expert-level knowledge of Shop Floor Automation best practices in GMP facilities, manufacturing, and packaging environments
  • Strong analytical and process skills with demonstrated success in agile problem solving 
  • Track record of successful collaboration with IT&S and Operations-based teams across multiple cultures
  • Proficiency with virtualization platforms, robotics, AI, and machine learning
  • Understanding of regional electrical codes along with machine safety standards
  • Ability to adapt communication style based on the technical aptitude of an audience at all levels of an organization
