Description Overview

Integral link between QC Lab Supervisors, QC and Senior Technicians to ensure continued function and high performance of the laboratory.  Maintains open line of communication with key stakeholders to identify and direct priorities for the team with QC Supervisor support. Provide assistance as needed for analysis of incoming materials, in-line samples, semi-finished product, and finished product in order to assess their conformance to established quality standards.  


This position will work autonomously under the supervision of the Quality Control Supervisor.

Scope of the Role

Laboratory Quality Ambassador: 
•    Comprehends and coaches to Good Laboratory Practices, Laboratory Safety Standards, and Biosafety/Biosecurity Protocols
•    Conducts investigation and gap closure for relevant audit gaps and laboratory deviations
•    Performs equipment / instrumentation acquisition, qualification, and maintenance
•    Completes nonconformance lab investigations 
•    Leads and coordinates qualification / validation / verification protocols. 


Training / Communication:
•    Routine communication with Factory Operations, Internal support functions, and external contractors to assist QC Lab Supervisor in facilitation and planning of laboratory operations.
•    Liaison between QC, Senior Technicians and QC Lab Supervisors in regard to daily issues and/or performance
•    Training and coaching of QC and Senior Technicians


Laboratory Operations:
•    Oversee and coordinate activities associated with testing/reporting for all FERT testing
•    Point of contact(s) between factory and external labs  
•    Summarize all Analytical and Micro Reports
•    First line of defense in deviation resolution, escalating to Laboratory Supervisor as needed
•    Perform physical, chemical, and/or microbiological analysis.  Clean-up and general maintenance of laboratory and work area.  Periodic maintenance and calibrations of analytical instrumentation and equipment
•    Maintain priority list, follow up, status update activities for all internal and external testing  
•    Coordination for non-routine testing requests (TAG, QA, etc)
•    Plan and execute the Stability program management
•    Plan and execute periodic testing (full nutrient, contaminant)
•    Complete routine review and inspection of SOP’s, forms, methods binders, lab notebooks, reagent & solution labeling, and calibration & PM Records
•    Sources, tracks, orders and stocks laboratory supplies
•    Other duties as assigned.
     
Safety and Environmental:
•    Follow factory safety & environmental objectives & targets. 
•    Follow the plant safety rules; Coach on and report incidents & unsafe conditions immediately. 
•    Maintain compliance with regulations and refer to the Safety & Environmental Management System(s) on all related procedures and programs. 
•    Understand the environmental aspects of the position and take action to reduce these environmental impacts by conserving paper, electricity, water etc. Will also recycle all appropriate materials (paper, plastic, food, etc.)


Quality:
•    Follow factory food safety, quality objectives & targets. 
•    Follow Good Manufacturing Practices; Coach on and report food safety and quality issues immediately.
•    Maintain compliance with regulations and refer to Quality Management System on all related procedures and programs. 
•    Understand the food safety and quality aspects of the position as indicated on QMS, OJT's and SOP's that apply. 
•    Throughout all of these responsibilities, maintains a focus on continuous improvement.

Experience Required

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (preferred microbiology, chemistry or food science)
  • Minimum of 3 years Quality Control Experience


Preferred Experience

  • 3+ years in quality lead or supervisor role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Master’s of Science or MBA.   
  • Experience in Infant Formula or Pharmaceutical industry.
