Description Overview

As the Production Manager at Perrigo Vermont, you will provide leadership and mentoring of department-based production supervisors and hourly work force working on multiple shifts. The Production Manager leads the production department on multiple shifts by empowering all team members to deliver on safe, high-quality, cost-competitive products, with 100% engagement and zero loss mindset.

Scope of the Role

  • Interfaces with other department managers and supervisors to assist in removing roadblocks and providing service to meet production schedules.
  • Maintain the facility and equipment to meet or exceed FDA, GMP, ISO, State of Vermont, Corporate, and Federal requirements. Includes completing PM work orders as scheduled, completing work orders on a timely basis.
  • Prepares employee performance evaluations and productive feedback for direct reports.
  • Assist in facilitation, coordination, and supervision of scheduled shutdown activities. 
  • Synchronize and coordinate activity between outside contractors and departments. 
  • Assists with interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning, directing and troubleshooting work
  • Supports quality initiatives/vision and provide resources for change control, validation, cGMP training and development of engineering standards and good engineering practices.
  • Assists in the preparation of annual departmental and facility capital budgeting. Includes working with the maintenance manager to prioritize projects and equipment shutdown, determine anticipated expenditures, and establish timeframes and payback.
  • Monitors daily production activity on all shifts to ensure consistent compliance with established procedures and takes corrective action when necessary.
  • Ensures that all operations comply with current Good Manufacturing Procedures, reviews Standard Operating Procedure changes for all plant operations, and monitors training and enforcement to ensure SOPs are followed.
  • Participates in capacity or budget planning, gathers and evaluates information, and makes and presents recommendations to the plant manager or other management staff.
  • 50% Tactical: Execution on Shift or Area through direct/indirect reports.
    • Activities include Implementation/Governance of Standards:
      • Management for Escalation (People, Process, and Asset/Equipment)
      • Management/Execution of Work Systems as intended (Coach, Teach, and Mentor)
    • Shift & Daily Coordination/Communication (Production, Engineering & Maintenance)
    • Execution of Standardized Gemba Process
      • People Safety (Floor Observation)
      • Product Quality (Proactive Audits)
  • 50% Strategical: Drive Continuous Improvement through business team and partnerships

    • Operational Efficiency/Performance (Track and Improve):
      • Downtime related - Open mechanical, operational and electrical issues
      • Change-over performance (improve clean in place, clean out of place, mid-runs, etc.)

Experience Required

 

  • A minimum of 2 years supervision in manufacturing experience required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Ability to provide work direction across multiple production areas and shifts.
  • Demonstrated understanding of different continuous improvement techniques and ability to utilize appropriate tools to guide and derive root causes.
  • Ability to handle and resolve conflicts and maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience with PLC based control systems, SAP, cGMP and training of others is preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand process flow, process and instrumentation, piping, mechanical and structural drawings.
  • Must have general knowledge and skills in computer-based applications and functions.
  • Knowledge of cGMPs and experience supervising in pharmaceutical/nutritional operations.
  • Firsthand experience in managing infant nutritional manufacturing operations or management experience managing processing spray drying facilities preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills, including well-developed communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Good planning, analytical skills, and a thorough understanding of manufacturing, packaging and/or warehousing processes.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively (both verbally and written), motivate and supervise others, handle multiple assignments, handle wide diversity of assignments, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Must have the ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple complex tasks and deadlines.
  • Must be highly results oriented and able to work in a changing environment where a high degree of teamwork and collaboration are required.
  • Ability to quickly focus and establish department priorities.
