Description Overview
The Production Team Manager is part of the production management team and manages a team of operators (typically 10–20 people, sometimes more temporarily) responsible for activities across a group of production lines in manufacturing or packing.
Additional reports may include Line Coordinators (packing) and Tool Room Technicians (manufacturing).
Key responsibilities include:
- Achieving safety, quality, volume, cost, and behavioural targets.
- Escalating deviations promptly.
- Managing training, appraisals, attendance reviews, recruitment support, and disciplinary investigations.
- Reporting to the Production Shift Manager and liaising with internal stakeholders (Engineering, Quality) and occasionally external stakeholders.
Scope of the Role
- Manage production line activities to meet the production plan and optimise priorities.
- Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Lead investigations and improvement projects related to safety, quality, productivity, cost, or behaviour.
- Maintain and update procedural documentation.Motivate the team to achieve targets (e.g., safety inspections, production plan adherence, cost improvements).
- Conduct reviews, appraisals, and attendance management.
- Develop and implement training plans.
- Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Health & Safety policies.Act as a role model for safety and quality culture.
Experience Required
Essential:
- Numeracy and literacy skills to at least Level 2 (Maths and English).
- Competent in MS Office.
- Working knowledge of workplace safety principles.
- Supervisory experience, ideally in a Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) environment.
- Demonstrated company core values and performance pillars (or equivalent for external candidates).
- Strong communication skills for internal and occasional external stakeholders.
- Ability to listen and influence others.
Desirable:
- 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above (or equivalent), including English and Maths.
- Working knowledge of quality systems in a regulated environment.
- Recognised supervision and/or continuous improvement qualification.
