Description Overview
This senior leadership role combines the strategic influence of a Chief of Staff with the operational rigor of a Head of Project & Portfolio Management Office (PPMO), while also serving as the global owner of Perrigo’s product portfolio governance. As a trusted advisor to the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), you will drive scientific strategy, enterprise alignment, and executional excellence. You will lead a global team responsible for portfolio and project management, ensuring innovation is delivered with speed, compliance, and impact—from concept through lifecycle.

Scope of the Role
Strategic Partnership & Scientific Leadership
- Partner with the CSO to shape and execute the scientific vision and long-term strategic objectives.
- Act as a strategic advisor, offering insights and recommendations on critical business matters.
- Represent the CSO and scientific office in high-level meetings, conferences, and industry events.
- Build and maintain relationships with external partners, academic institutions, and regulatory bodies.
Global Portfolio Governance & Strategic Oversight
- Own the global product portfolio balance and health, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy.
- Lead the global product governance and resource allocation processes (Idea Screening, Stage-Gate).
- Provide regular portfolio performance updates and recommendations to the Operating Committee.
- Identify opportunities to scale product and technology assets across the enterprise.
Project & Program Management Excellence
- Lead the R&D PPMO function with direct reports structured by category and geography.
- Oversee portfolio prioritization, resource allocation, and risk management.
- Implement and evolve PMO methodologies (e.g., Agile, Stage-Gate).
- Coordinate resources across internal teams, third-party contractors, and consultants.
Cross-Functional Integration & Leadership
- Facilitate collaboration across R&D, Regulatory, Medical, Commercial, and Supply Chain.
- Serve as a key integrator across functions and geographies, ensuring transparency and alignment.
- Coordinate scientific leadership meetings, agendas, and follow-through on strategic actions.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Establish and maintain dashboards, KPIs, and governance forums to ensure visibility and accountability.
- Produce regular reports for the CSO and Executive Leadership Team (ELT), highlighting achievements, risks, and opportunities.
- Drive data-informed decision-making across the scientific office.
Special Projects & Change Management
- Lead high-impact, cross-functional initiatives on behalf of the CSO.
- Support change management efforts, identifying risks and developing mitigation plans.
- Foster a culture of adaptability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Organizational Leadership & Culture
- Build and lead a high-performing global team (currently 30+ FTEs) across scientific operations and portfolio management.
- Champion Perrigo’s values and leadership behaviours.
- Promote an inclusive, purpose-driven culture rooted in scientific excellence and agility.
Experience Required
- Advanced degree in a scientific discipline (PhD, PharmD, or Master’s); MBA or MPH a plus.
- Typically the required experience would be gained through 15+ years of experience in R&D, scientific operations, or portfolio management in a large corporate environment (ideally FMCG).
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead through ambiguity.
- Strong scientific literacy, business acumen, and executive presence.
- Experience with PMO tools, digital platforms, and data-driven decision-making.
- Project/Programme Management certification desirable.
