Description Overview

 

This role is responsible for the development and enhancement of innovative packaging solutions for self-care consumer goods, with a focus on sustainability, efficiency, and competitive advantage. The Packaging Engineer will lead projects from ideation to execution, ensuring alignment with business goals and customer needs. Key responsibilities include managing packaging projects, driving sustainable packaging initiatives, and collaborating cross-functionally to deliver consumer-preferred, cost-effective solutions.

Scope of the Role

 

  • Lead the development and management of packaging for finished goods and incoming product packaging, with a focus on the Global Personal Care and CSCI OTC segments.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Sales to develop packaging designs that meet customer needs and business objectives.
  • Act as the Packaging Development lead on project teams, providing technical expertise throughout all project phases.
  • Manage packaging projects, offering technical guidance to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring timelines and budgets are maintained.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Operations, and strategic suppliers to deliver cost-effective, sustainable packaging solutions.
  • Contribute to the growth of the Packaging function by driving innovation, design improvements, sustainability efforts, and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Propose and implement new packaging methods and technologies to enhance product offerings and support broader business strategies.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to resolve technical issues and drive packaging advancements.
  • Lead the development and validation of packaging tooling for manufacturing use, ensuring adherence to quality standards.

Experience Required

 

  • Typically 5 years of experience in Packaging Engineering or Pharma Manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of packaging materials, processes, qualifications, and validations.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in packaging software such as TOPS, CAPE, Pallet Manager, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Artios CAD is desirable.
  • Experience in packaging principles, material properties, and component manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with developing packaging material and packaging specifications.
  • Ability to independently plan and execute packaging tests and validations (IQ/OQ/PQ).
  • Familiarity with ASTM and ISTA standards for package testing is preferred.
  • Understanding of packaging equipment processes.
  • Occasional travel (up to 10%) may be required.
  • Second language (French) is a plus, but not essential.
