Description Overview

Performs complex assignments often requiring development of new or improved products, processes, or techniques.  Assesses feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering tests, products, and equipment.  Coordinates planning, organization, and implementation of engineering projects within constraints of specific goals and target dates as specified by management.  This is a journey level position and may represent transition from individual contributor to the managerial level.  May or may not have ongoing responsibilities for people management.  Typically requires the ability to broadly interpret theories, and concepts of an engineering specialty.
Contributes to successful project completion by participating in the resolution of issues such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials, and complex coordination requirements.

Scope of the Role

  • Focuses on managerial concerns of the project such as cost, completion date, and resource allocation.
  • Provides expert resolution of issues and monitors integration of work and project direction.
  • Coordinates project activities with other operating or engineering units to facilitate participation of appropriate staff in project completion.
  • Coordinates implementation of design engineering solutions.
  • Reviews project-related documentation to ensure accuracy.
  • Participates in professional organizations to maintain current knowledge of technical innovations.
  • Assists in deciding project objectives to contribute to the development of a comprehensive project design.
  • Outlines project requirements, assigns tasks, and supervises progress to ensure that goals are being met.
  • Ability to compile and organize statistical process information and present findings to management.
  • Responsible for recruitment, performance reviews, and training needs.

Experience Required

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Science discipline required; typically, six (6) plus years of work experience required.
  • Green Belt / Black Belt Certification required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including strong listening skills and presentation skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills  and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to assess reliability of current processes; extrapolating available data to predict future trends and proactively address necessary changes.
  • Train other team members how to utilize statistical methods, interpret collected data and organize findings.

The successful candidate must be physically able to climb stairs, use hands to manipulate basic hand tools/handheld equipment, operate a motor vehicle to access various plant locations, and be able to stand for long periods of time.
